The Arnuero City Council organizes the XX Arnuero International Chamber Music Competition (CIMCA), which will be held on June 30, July 1 and 2, 2023. Previously, a classification procedure will be carried out through the submission of video recordings in the period established in these Terms & Conditions.

CIMCA is conceived as a MEETING of young musicians. For this purpose, accommodation is provided to the participating groups in the municipality of Arnuero, so that the young performers can live together, interact and exchange experiences during the days of the competition. In this edition, due to the need to continue adopting the health protocols that are required at all times against Covid19, there will be an online pre-selection of a maximum of 8 groups, which will be the ones that will attend the following face-to-face final round in Arnuero,  and provided that there are no public health circumstances that prevent it.

In addition, CIMCA intends to function as a support platform for young performers to develop a professional career as stable chamber music groups, for which agreements have been established with various institutions such as the Botín Foundation, the Santander International Festival, the Royal Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo and the Conservatory of Jesús de Monasterio of the city of Santander, so that part of the prizes consists of hiring the winners for a concert that allows them to integrate into prestigious musical circles in Spain.

On the other hand, in order to promote the creation of chamber music, in this XX edition, on June 30, 2023, we will premiere a work by the President of the Jury, the composer Ananda Sukarlan, composed for piano, accordion, clarinet and cello.

In line with this commitment to contemporary music, the RICARDO HONTAÑÓN prize, an invaluable collaborator of our contest, is established for those contestants who include a work composed from 1945 onwards in their repertoire.

The list of works, including the chamber music ones by Ananda Sukarlan is listed on this website, and could be acquired through the inbox of Instagram @anandasukarlancenter or through this website.

The competition presents the following characteristics to highlight :

· Age limit: 28 years old at the date of the competition for every member of the group.

· Registration period: from February 1 to April 30. Preselection of the video recording: May 2023

· Live Celebration dates in Arnuero: June 30, July 1 and 2, 2023.

· Reception of finalists, presentation of the jury and inaugural concert with premiere of the work of the composer and President of the jury,

Ananda Sukarlan: June 30 at 8:00 p.m. in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Arnuero.

· Qualifying auditions (maximum 8 groups): July 1 from 4:00 p.m.  until the end

· Final (Maximum 4 groups): July 2 from 6:00 p.m., in a place to be determined

Each instrumental group has to record three complete works, from different eras and styles that, as a whole, do not exceed fifty minutes and have a minimum duration of approximately 30 minutes. It is a necessary requirement that all the works be presented complete with all their movements and that they have been originally conceived for the instrumental formation of the group (not transcriptions), except that the contestants can
prove the impossibility of meeting this requirement,  since there are no works written for the group formation in question.

Those who wish to apply for the RICARDO HONTAÑÓN award of 500 Euros, one of the three works in his repertoire must have been composed by Ananda Sukarlan or composers born after 1945.
