Ananda Sukarlan Award is now open to all instruments and voice. ASA now affiliates with Chicago International Music Competition, USA and is named ASA – CIMCUSA.
ASA – CIMCUSA is open to any musicians with passports of countries of Asia, or foreign countries who are currently living in a country in Asia, even if (s)he has a passport of a non-Asian country.
There are 3 categories :
1. Junior, age limit: born on or after 1st of January, 2010.
2. Young artists: born between January 1st 2005 and December 31st, 2009
3. Professional artist: born before December 31st 2004. There are no maximum age limit.
For those who reach the finals can choose, or do both: to travel to the Chicago International Music Competition (CIMCUSA) in July 2023 for the finals, and / or to Jakarta for the Ananda Sukarlan Awards in the beginning of May 2023 (exact dates to be announced). The idea is participants can win both competitions with just one semi final round.
The dates and more informations about the CIMCUSA can be read at http://www.cimcusa.org
Everyone can send a video of their playing. The difference between solo and chamber music is, if you are a solo competitor accompanied by, say, a pianist, then the pianist is not competing. So the competitor can change the accompanist in the final round, if (s)he likes. In a chamber music group, everyone is competing so the musicians should be exactly the same in the final round.
For Junior category, all participants should upload 2 videos on YouTube performing 2 different pieces of music: one or more work(s) written by Ananda Sukarlan of minimum 2 minutes, and one piece by a Baroque, Classical, Romantic or 20th century work of minimum 3 minutes.
For Young and Professional artists:
Piano and classical voice participants should upload 2 videos on YouTube performing 2 different pieces of music: one or more work(s) written by Ananda Sukarlan of total minimum 6 minutes, and one or more piece(s) by a Baroque, Classical, Romantic or 20th century work of minimum 7 minutes. The work can be in several movements or opus numbers but should be by the same composer
Participants of other instruments and chamber music should upload 2 videos on YouTube performing 2 different pieces of music: one or more work(s) written by Ananda Sukarlan of minimum 4 minutes, and piece(s) by a Baroque, Classical, Romantic or 20th century work of minimum 7 minutes. The work can be in several movements or opus numbers but should be by the same composer.
The deadline of the uploading videos on YouTube is February 28th, 2023 at 11.59 p.m. West Indonesia Time. The title of the videos should be the following format :
Ananda Sukarlan Award 2023 – name of participant – composer: title .
The participants are free to put anything in the caption, and the ASA organizers encourage the participants to use it for promoting, such as mentioning their teachers, music school and other things they want the public to know about themselves.
The final round of the Ananda Sukarlan Award will be held in Live Performance in Jakarta at the end of May, 2023. The participants should play two different pieces of 2 different composers (if possible, from different periods) from the ones in the semifinal round, plus 1 piece from the semi final round. So, in total for the semifinal and final, the participants have to prepare 4 pieces.
The musical works of Ananda Sukarlan are listed in this website.
The judges would like to remind that if you’re a melodic instrument like a violin or oboe and perform works with accompaniment, that the quality of the ensemble performance is also important even if one applies as a soloist and not as a chamber music group. Although we don’t judge the accompanist (piano or other instruments), the accompanist’s quality influences, even determines the quality of the performance.
